There are 3 strands to our campaign

  1. We want to raise public awareness of the problem: There are 2 parts to the issue; a lack of availability and a lack of affordability; both of these need to be tackled to solve the problem. One without the other simply doesn’t work

  2. Explore the possibility of setting up a Thatch Insurance Group Scheme: We need a minimum of 1,000 thatch owners to join our group before we can even consider starting this process. We currently have 400. This objective seems to be out of reach. After 3 years we have concluded that the niche underwriting capacity required is unlikely to be able to be sourced in the Irish Insurance market at premium cost levels which would be acceptable to thatch owners i.e. we might be able to enhance availability but affordability would be unattainable

  3. Campaign to lobby the Irish Government for thatch insurance reform and to provide a viable solution to the problem: To keep pressure on the Government we have petitioned the Oireachtas. We have already had 3 hearing sessions in Leinster House (links to these sessions are below)
